ESN Metropolia is one of the member associations of ESN AISBL. ESN Metropolia started as an association under the Student Union (METKA) to organize social and leisure events for the exchange in 2008. In 2012 ESN Metropolia became registered as independent association from METKA and continued the work of the association under METKA.

ESN Metropolia offers different activities to local and international trips, social events and multiple services for the students in Metropolia UAS. ESN Metropolia also aims to create understanding and acceptance between different cultures among the students.

Around 450 students from all over the world enjoy their academic exchange period in Metropolia UAS every year. ESN Metropolia works together with Metka International Office from the exchange orientation weeks and from there on, ESN Metropolia aims to offer versatile activities and events for the students.

Services

ESN Metropolia offers different services to the students in Metropolia, this services are mainly focused towards exchange students and international students, but any student in Metropolia can request the services provided by ESN Metropolia, the services offered by ESN Metropolia offers many different services and projects from the different levels of ESN:

Events

ESN Metropolia organizes and invites Metropolia students to the different kind of trips from local sightseeing to long distance trips. ESN Metropolia hosts social events for the members to get to know each other and safe spaces for the students to spend time in as well as National Events organized by ESN Finland

Trips

ESN Metropolia offers several long distance trips organized by TimeTravels such as trips to Lapland, Russia, Iceland and Norwegian Fjords. In addition, we have the Baltic Countries trip organized completely by ESN Metropolia. These events last from 5 to 7 days. We also offer short distance trips such as weekend trips to nearby areas and cities for example the National Park of Nuuksio in Espoo, Porvoo (50 km), Lahti (100 km), Tampere (200 km) and Turku (250 km).

Social events

Social events include the highly anticipated Finnish cultural night during the orientation weeks, the amazing city race along with several other student parties organized throughout the semester in cooperation with the ESN sections in Helsinki and other student associations.

Other

Other events offered by ESN Metropolia are excursions and visits to different places in the Helsinki Metropolitan area (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kirkkonummi and Kauniainen), these events last at most one day and the places to be visited can be factories, natural areas, government buildings, museums and other interesting places.

Projects

ESN Metropolia offers gadgets and products for rent or sale, depending on how long the item(s) are used. Our most popular and highly demanded product is our ESN Air-mattresses that offers a comfortable place to sleep in for when your friends and families come to visit.

Included in the Welcome packs handed by the Tutors, we have added a very useful tool for you, the ESN Finland DNA Sim card, the sim card is ready to use immediately and includes some credit to be used at your convenience.

The ESNCard is the membership card of the ESN Network offering discounts all over Europe (check them here). Other interesting projects for the exchange students in Metropolia are the ESNSurvey and PRIME, both of them are research projects to identify the problems that Erasmus students face before, during and after the experience, what is the academic recognition of the experience and how it affects in the personal level of a student.

Academic issues

ESN Metropolia is the Student Association representing all international students in Metropolia UAS and claims for equal treatment between local and international students by staff members of Metropolia UAS, preparing official statements and representing the international students to the institution.
